Leadership
By Martha Agas
Jos, March 15, 2017(NAN) A Ukraine-based Clergy, Dr. Frank Lloyd, has said that it was impossible to have an effective leadership “without effective and faithful followers”.
The Clergy stated this on Wednesday in Jos, at a special prayer and fasting programme organized by workers of the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), for its management.
In his sermon titled: “Leadership and Followership”, he said that followers’ faithfulness usually determine the quality of success a leader could achieve.
“The followers must have the right attitude and mindset; once they have the right attitude and are faithful, every individual follower becomes a potential leader.
“Every follower must be available for service; everyone has a role to play and God can qualify the available for key responsibilities.
“Obedience is a key attribute of faithful followers. They must obey without grudges, and also understand that the success of their leaders determines their own progress,” he said.
Iloyd said that the worrisome standard of education was a reflection of the quality of leadership in the country, stressing that Nigeria needed a new generation of selfless, diligent and goal-oriented leaders.
In his remarks, Prof. Matthew Sule, SUBEB Chairman, said that the prayer session was to ensure the success of the board, especially its commitment to helping every primary school pupil to learn to read, write and count.
“The general impression is that SUBEB is a gold mine. But the truth is that it is just a facilitator of quality basic education,” he said.
Sule prayed for resources to execute projects to help the children in public primary schools, noting that most of them were children of the poor.
Mr Godfrey Bali, a staff of the board, told NAN that the prayer and fasting programme would be sustained.
“This is the first time a spiritual event is being organised to pray for the success of SUBEB. We shall intensify the prayers so that God will lead our management aright,” he said. (NAN)
