Lagos, Dec. 5, 2017 (NAN) A U.S.-based Little League Coach, Raymond Thomas, on Tuesday urged little league districts in the country to do more to promote the sport.

Thomas told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) from the U.S. that budding players had a whole lot to benefit from the sport if they were adequately educated about baseball and softball.

NAN reports that Little League Baseball and Softball is a non-profit organisation based in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania U.S. which organises local youth leagues in the U.S. and the rest of the world.

“Little league is played all over the world and this shows how significant and helpful it can be to children.

“Apart from learning about the sport, it gives room for participants to improve on all areas of their lives and this is where the districts need to work on,’’ he said.

NAN reports that little league districts in the country are Districts 01, comprising leagues in the South-West, Districts 02 for North-Central and Districts 03 for the South-South.

On the forthcoming Little League Baseball and Softball Camp/Coaching Clinic in Ibadan from Dec. 16 to Dec. 24, Thomas said he was looking forward to being part of the event.

“Little League has been a part of my life for over 50-years, I also played in Hamilton, Ohio in the 1960s, so the participants have a lot to gain from my input,’’ he said.

NAN reports that the programme is organised by the Little League Districts 01 in the country and supported by the U.S. Embassy.

NAN also reports that Coach Gerard Hall and Raymond Thomas both from the U.S. are the instructors for the programme. (NAN)
