Lagos, Jan. 11, 2017 (NAN) A truck driver, Kabiru Odesola, who allegedly stole N510,000 worth of goods from his employer, was on Wednesday released on bail in the sum of N100, 000 on the orders of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Odesola, a resident of No. 42, Moshalasi St., Aboru, Agbado, a Lagos suburb, is facing a charge of stealing.
Prosecutor Ishaku Babaji told the court that the accused diverted and stole chemicals valued at N510,000 he was transporting to Delta from Lagos.
Babaji said the accused stole the goods belonging to the complainant, Mr Taiwo Adeshina, on Dec. 30 at No. 1, Ok Close, Alakuko.
“The accused was asked to deliver chemicals from Lagos to Delta State by the complainant, his employer .
“He, however, sold the goods worth N510,000 and converted the proceeds to personal use; the case was reported to the police, and the accused was immediately arrested.’’
The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, denied the charge.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the section prescribes a three-year imprisonment for offenders.
The Magistrate, Mr J.A. Adegun, adjourned the case to Jan. 17 for mention. (NAN)
