Lagos, June 14, 2017 (NAN) An articulated vehicle driver, Chinedu Igbemena, who allegedly stole N3 million worth of tyres
belonging to his employer, was on Wednesday released on N500, 000 bail on the orders of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, who gave the ruling, also granted the accused two sureties in like sum.
Igbemena, 31, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of stealing.
The accused, however, denied the charge.
Police Prosecutor Simeon Imhonwa had told the court that the accused diverted and stole 92 pieces of tyres valued
at N3 million.
He said the accused was asked to deliver the tyres belonging to the complainant, Mr Abdulganiyu Alate, on Dec. 7, 2016 to Port Harcourt from Idumota, Lagos.
“The accused diverted the goods to Warri in Delta and sold off the tyres worth N3 million at N900, 000 and converted
the proceeds to personal use.”
The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section provides three years imprisonment for offenders.
The case has been adjourned until Aug. 17 for mention. (NAN)
