Tricycle operator docked over alleged theft of spare parts

Lagos, Feb. 23, 2017 (NAN) A tricycle operator, Babatunde Adenle, on Thursday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of tricycle parts valued at N102,000.

Adenle, also the Chairman, Tricyclists Association of Harmony Owode Unit, Badore Branch, was arraigned on a one-count charge of theft.

The accused, however, pleaded innocence of the charge.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Philip Osijiale, told the court that the accused was caught with five tricycle tyres, a battery and carburetor by a security guard on Feb. 18 at about 4:00a.m.

He alleged that Adenle stole the tricycle parts valued at N102, 000 properties of Mr Eje Igbe and three others at Baale Street, Owode off Langbasa, Ajah, Lagos.

“A security guard on duty in the area caught the chairman with five tricycle tyres, a battery and a carburetor in the early hours of the morning.

“Igbe and others whose tricycle parts where stolen noticed later in the morning and came to lodge complain and were told that the culprit had been caught,’’ he alleged.

Osijiale said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 which stipulates three years imprisonment for offenders.

The Magistrate, Mr Omolaja Kazeem, admitted Adenle to N20, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

He fixed March 6 for the commencement of trial. (NAN)
