Lagos, Aug. 2, 2017 (NAN) A 32-year-old treasurer, Munirat Abdulazeez, who was arraigned for allegedly stealing her employer’s N1 million was on Wednesday released on N200,000 bail by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The accused of no known address is standing trial on a count charge of stealing.
She, however, entered a `not-guilty’ plea.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.J. Awope, also asked the accused to produce two sureties as part of the bail condition.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in July at Ogba, Lagos.
He said that the accused stole N1 million belonging to Wacot Nigeria Ltd.
“The accused stole her employer’s money which was in her care,’’ he said.
Ayorinde said that the accused who was in charge of the company’s money claimed that the money was stolen where she kept it.
“The accused informed her organisation that the money she kept inside her drawer was missing.
“The company discovered that the door to her office was not burgled just as her drawer was not broken.
“She was handed over to the police,’’ he said.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing.
The case was adjourned until Aug. 15 for mention. (NAN)
