Minna, Feb. 23, 2017 (NAN) The Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has urged the College of Education, Minna, to key into the council’s “Induction Protocol” for its teeming graduands.

TRCN state Coordinator, Malam Usman Sani, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Thursday.

According to him, the Induction Protocol is a system that assists the council in getting verifiable, reliable and authentic records from teachers’ training institutions.

“Incidentally, the College of Education (COE), Minna, is yet to fully key into the Induction Protocol like other education awarding institutions in the state.

“Record has it that my two predecessors had written in the past and I have also written a reminder letter on the need for yearly induction of the graduands as mandated by the council.

“TRCN had only inducted graduands of the COE, Minna, only once as against the annual mandate specified by the Federal Ministry of Education via TRCN,” he said.

He explained that the students were meant to have filled the TRCN forms before graduating from the school.

Sani said that the council would honour results presented to them for capturing, provided the graduating students had no academic problem and such results had been approved by the academic board.

He cautioned that with the college not taking the matter seriously enough, graduands of the school would have to write the compulsory examination of the council before being considered to teach as qualified teachers.

“It is a system that paves way for the council to have a reliable record of institution graduating education students, not only for certification, but for the data need of the country and UNESCO.

“The induction is also a way of boosting the morale of the graduands, especially as teaching is no longer an all comers job, but a profession and so, it should not be shelved for any reason,” he said.

Sani urged the college to emulate the IBB University, Federal University of Technology, Minna, and the College of Education, Kotangora, that had inducted their students.

The TRCN had issued 32,298 certificates to teachers in Niger from 2005 to date. (NAN)
