Travelling agent faces N340,000 fraud charge, gets N500,000 bail

Ile-Ife (Osun), Oct 25, 2017 (NAN) An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, granted N500,000 bail to a travelling agent, Ilori Adebiyi, charged with N340,000 visa fraud.

Adebiyi, 48, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Dorcas Ajiboye, who granted the bail, ordered the accused to produce two sureties each in like sum.

Ajiboye said that the sureties should swear to affidavits of means and show evidence of payment of three years tax clearance to the state Government.

She said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, have their addresses verified, and should present two recent passport photographs each.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Osanyintuyi, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 23, around 12:00 p.m at Mayfair, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the accused obtained N340,000 from one Okitikpi Sunday on the pretence of securing travelling visa for him, but converted the money to his own use.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 383, 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The case has been adjourned until Nov 24, for hearing. (NAN)
