Lagos, Feb. 8, 2018 (NAN) A 33-year-old travel agent, Damilola Oladapo, who allegedly defrauded a man of N646,000 on the pretext of procuring a United Kingdom visa,  was on Thursday arraigned in  an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Oladapo, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of stealing, conspiracy and fraud.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Insp  Raji Akeem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence with one other person  at large  in November 2017 at Ilupeju Road, Lagos.

According to him, the defendant collected N646, 000 from Mr Musibau Makanjuola with a promise to procure  a United Kingdom visa for him.

“The defendant collected the money and failed to get the visa as promised;  instead he converted the money to personal use and  all efforts to get the money back failed,” he said.

The offences, he said,  contravene  Sections 287, 411 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Section 287 provides 14 years imprisonment for offenders, while Section 314 stipulates 15 years for obtaining credit by false pretences.

The Magistrate, Mr T. O. Shomade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of  N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should also show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned till  Feb. 28 for mention. (NAN)
