Nassarawa (Nasarawa State), Dec. 21, 2016 (NAN) The Aren Eggon, Bala Abena-Angbazo, has called on Nigerians to shun violence and embrace peace for the development of the nation.
Abena-Angbazo, who is the traditional Ruler of Eggon nation, made the call on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nassarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Abena-Angbazo expressed displeasure over the unending security challenges and killings of innocent people in the state and in neighbouring states of Plateau and Benue.
“Every part of this country has had one form of security challenges or the other, in addition to attacks on communities and killings of clerics and traditional rulers by gunmen,’’ he said.
He expressed shock over the recent killing of a Chinese miner and three others at Alogani Village of Nassarawa-Eggon by yet to be identified persons.
The ruler added that apart from this case, there are other reported and unreported cases of kidnapping, killings and other criminalities by unknown group across the country.
Abena-Angbazo explained that the alarming rate of criminality and lawlessness in the country if not urgently checked and addressed, would get out of control.
He urged leaders at all levels to intensify the preaching of peace and match their preachings with sincere actions by condemning violence publicly in every public gathering.
The traditional ruler urged government at all levels to ensure adequate protection of lives and properties of all communities and act promptly in case of any security threat.
He urged members of the public to be law abiding and ensure amicable resolution of any problem without shedding human blood or destroying properties.
“People should report any suspicious person, movement or activities to the appropriate authorities for prompt actions,” Abene-Angbazo advised.
He directed all village and district heads in the area to sensitise their people on the need to live in peace and embrace others irrespective of whatever differences. (NAN)
