Abuja, March 13,2018 (NAN) Alhaji Shaban Audu, Nizazo111, Etsu of Kwali has called on Federal Government develop all researches in science and technology and make them relevant to the society.
Audu made this call on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Audu spoke during the 4th Edition of the Annual Science and Technology Expo (FASTTECH 2018) organised by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Education Secretariat, Department of Science and Technology holding from March 13 to March 15.
He said the idea of the expo was fantastic, adding that the most important thing was for the exhibitors to be encouraged so that their researches could be useful in the society.
He said every research must be relevant to the society and should not be a material kept and unused.
“It is important that government has a way of making researches relevant to the society
“Like I said, the society is dynamic, science and technology is also dynamic, we must think for the future and anything or researches we are going into, we have to make sure they remain relevant for the future.
“We have a lot of research materials hanging everywhere and nobody is doing anything about them, we need to collect these materials and make use of them.
“I have mentioned the Indian experience that produced kekenapep or tricycle, the country thought kekenapep was useful that was why it produced it.
“So we should think of what we can do for our society as far as science and technology is concerned,’’ he said.
Audu said that the best way to ensure that researches carried out became relevant was for government to involve individuals or agencies who could support researchers.
He said these individuals or agencies could improve on whatever researches that had been carried out and government could even make money from these agencies.
“Government can also come in fully to encourage the students by taking their researches to relevant institutions or overseas to improve on what they are doing.
“And when they return with the researches, it can become local content and once that is done, the country would open up scientific window for our children in all schools,’’ he said.
The theme of this year’s expo is “Technology and Society in the 21ST Century’’. (NAN)
