Call
Birnin Kebbi Dec 13 2016 (NAN) The Emir of Gwandu, Kebbi, Alhaji Muhammad Bashar, has called on parents to enrol their children in schools instead of sending them to hawk.
Bashir, who is also the Chairman, state Council of Chiefs, made the call in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, when he led a special prayer session for the unity and tranquillity of the nation.
The emir, who expressed concern over girls being made to take to street hawking, stressed that the development exposed them to rape, abduction and other inimical attitudes.
Bashar further expressed displeasure on the practice whereby children were taken to cities and villages far from their homes in search of Islamic knowledge.
The traditional ruler said that the possibility of children acquiring western and Islamic education at the doorstep of their parents was quite feasible.
This he said was because the state government had constructed schools in every part of the state.
He also cautioned parents against subjecting their children to degrading and inhuman treatment warning, “we would not hesitate to sanction such practices.”
The emir said that children were gifts and blessing from God, stressing that parents ought to be up and doing to bringing them up educationally.(NAN)
