Trader in court over alleged theft of provisions worth N10,000

Lagos, Aug.10, 2017 (NAN) A 26-year-old trader , Okechukwu Samuel, was on Thursday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing provisions worth N10,000.
Samuel of no fixed address is facing a charge of stealing .
He, however, entered a not guilty plea.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ishola Samuel, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 1, at Oja-Oba Market, Abule-Egba, Lagos.
Samuel said that the defendant went to the complainant’s shop, one Hassan Jibo, and stole provisions valued at N10,000.
He listed items stolen as bournvita, carton of biscuit and milk; adding that Jibo met the defendant as he was about to escape and shouted for help.
“Samuel was apprehended with the help of the people in the market and handed over to the police.”
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 .
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.
The Magistrate, Miss A. R. Onilogbo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned until Aug. 17 for mention. (NAN)
