Arraignment
Abuja, Nov. 11, 2016 (NAN) The Police on Friday arraigned one Mohammed Antar in Abuja for allegedly being in possession of a stolen telephone handset.
Antar, a trader of Suleja, Niger state, is facing a charge of receiving a stolen property at a Wuse Zone 2 Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja.
The prosecutor, Gambo Musa, told the court that one Dominic Felix, of Wuse 2, Abuja, reported the matter at Wuse Police Station on Nov. 3.
“On the same date, some unknown men entered into the complainant’s shop at Micro Trend, Wuse 2, Abuja.
“The men forcefully collected the sum of N330, 000 from the sales made that day; they also collected an I-phone and other phones belonging to the workers in the store,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said that during investigation, the I-phone was tracked to the accused and it was recovered from him.
He said that the defendant claimed that he bought the phone from one Chukwuemeka Ikenna in Suleja, who is now at large.
The offence contravened the provisions of Section 316 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The magistrate, Munirat Tanko, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a reasonable surety in like sum.
Tanko ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the matter until Dec. 8. (NAN)
