Tourism: training of stakeholders to enhance professionalism, quality services, says institute

Abuja, Feb.3, 2018 (NAN) The Institute for Tourism Professionals (ITP), says its series of trainings for members of staff,  Federal Ministry of Information and Culture are aimed at enhancing professionalism and to improve the sector.

Mr Abiodun Odusanwo, the National President of ITP, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja.

“The training recently held in Nasarawa for middle tourism officers of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture was to boost capacity that will also enhance professionalism in the management of the sector.

“We have trained staff from International Tourism Promotion and the international Tourism Corporation Department and the Domestic and Eco-tourism promotion and control.

“These trainings have built their capacities in the area of tourism development, and as they carry out their jobs, they will infuse touch of professionalism to achieve remarkable success.

“The ITP would continue to deliver its mandate to build capacity of stakeholders in tourism to move the sector to the next level,’’ he said.

According to him, ITP is a higher vocational and tertiary level professional organisation established to furnish the sector with professional personnel who can provide quality standard of products and services.

He said that the institute was committed to supporting and promoting the tourism and hospitality profession by developing, certifying and connecting practitioners across the tourism and hospitality value-chain.

“We are mandated to promote professional ethics and efficiency in tourism administration and practice.’’

NAN reports that ITP is recognised as an award body for the sector, which is mandated to develop and administer accredited qualifications.

The body is also mandated to approve, monitor training centres, issue certificates and provide adequate process for continuous professional development for every category of staff in the hospitality and tourism sector. (NAN)
