Tiler faces break-in, theft charge

Lagos, March 8, 2018 (NAN) A 19-year-old tiler, Usman Alih, who allegedly broke into a shop and stole two generator sets worth N78,000, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Alih, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of stealing, break-in and conspiracy.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused committed the offences with one other still at large on March 1, at No 2, Oyewole Road, Papa Ashafa, Agege, Lagos.

He said the accused broke into the shop of the complainant, Mr Olaniyi Momosho, and  stole the generator sets.

“Momosho received a telephone call informing him that his shop had been burgled, and the accused was caught with two of his generators,” he said.

The offence contravened Section 287, 411 and 311 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be jailed seven years, if found guilty, according to Section 311.

Section 411 also prescribes a two- year term for conspiracy.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, granted the accused bail the the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Anifowoshe said  one of the sureties should be a blood relation of the accused and both sureties should show evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until March 14 for mention. (NAN)
