Thrift collector charged over alleged theft of N46,000 in Lagos

Lagos, Dec. 15, 2016 (NAN) A 36-year-old thrift collector was on Thursday arraigned in Lagos for allegedly stealing the sum of N46,000 from his customer.
The accused, Saheed Olajide, who lives at Amubioya Oke-Aro, Ogun State, is facing a three-count of breach of peace, stealing and assault before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecutor, Insp. Eruada Victor, told the court that the offences were committed on Oct. 9, respectively, at Guinness Junction Ikeja, Lagos.
Victor said that the complainant Bawa Happiness, started a daily contribution with the accused, since July and was to collect the sum of N66,000 on Oct.
“She met Olajide for her money which he gave the sum N20,000, promised her of giving her the remaining balance,’’ he said.
“Surprisingly when Happiness got to the accused, he started assaulting her in public by slapping her and holding the shirt to her neck.”
The complainant reported the matter to the police and the accused was arrested.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty and was granted a N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe adjourned the case to Dec. 29 for mention. (NAN)
