The Nation@57 tournament: Willy, Kwasu tied on first position after round one

Abuja, Sept. 28, 2017 (NAN) Nigeria’s pro golfers Gift Willy and Kenneth Kwasu were tied on first position at the end of the first round of the ongoing THE NATION@57 Tournament in Port Harcourt.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the four-day tournament which teed off on Thursday is expected to end on Sunday, Oct. 1.
Graham Webster, the Tournament Director, West Africa Golf Tour, who confirmed the result to NAN on Thursday said the two professionals from Port Harcourt finished as co-leaders with an even-par 70 after the first round.
“They are closely followed by Kodjo Barni and Samba Niang tied on third position.
“Barni and Niang both scored one over par 71, while the Torgah brothers from Ghana, Vincent and Francis, are sharing the fifth place with 72,” he said.
Webster also said that the first round of the tournament was suspended for an hour due to rain.
He noted that it was the first time the West Africa Golf Tour was staging THE NATION, a tournament to commemorate Nigeria’s 57th independence anniversary.
NAN reports that no fewer than 40 players from Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Senegal and Gabon are competing for a prize money of 30, 000 dollars.
The winner is expected to pocket a whopping 4, 500 dollars as well as 4,500 points for the Order of Merit.
The West Africa Golf Tour continues to attract best players from all over Africa with new golfers from Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Senegal joining.
