Lagos, April 9, 2018 (NAN) A 15-year-old boy is to spend six months at a borstal in Abeokuta, Ogun State for stealing a cell phone valued N30,000 and a cash of N15,000.
An Ikeja Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A. Adegun, in a ruling, sentenced the teenager after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
Adegun, however, gave him an option of N30,000 fine to serve as deterrent to others.
The convict (names withheld), an apprentice, who resides at 3, Ajenifuja St., Oshodi, Lagos was tried for conspiracy and stealing.
Earlier, the prosecutor Insp. Clifford Ogu, said that the offences were committed on March 24 at Shogbesan St., Alagbado, a Lagos suburb.
Ogu said that the convict and his friend, who is now at large waylaid the16- year -old complainant, Ibrahim Waris.
“The complainant was sent on an errand by his mother at about 7:00 p.m. when the convict and his friend waylaid him.
“They collected his mobile phone valued at N30,000 and N15,000 that he kept in his pocket.
“After that, the complainant held the accused clothes and shouted for help, but his other accomplice ran away,’’ he said.
Ogu added that the mobile phone and the money were retrieved from the convict’s pocket.
“The police on patrol met them at the scene and arrested the convict,’’ he said.
The offences contravened Sections 280 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
