Abuja, March 17, 2017 (NAN) The Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Friday ordered that 18-year-old Mensha Luka be given four strokes of the cane for being in possession of stolen property.
Luka, of no fixed address, was convicted on a count charge of being in possession of stolen property.
The Judge, Abubakar Sadiq, gave the order after the convict pleaded guilty to the charge and begged for leniency.
The prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah, had told the court that Abdulmaro Mustapha of Kado village, Abuja, caught and brought Luka to Kado Police Station on March 6.
Zannah said that on the same date at about 2 a.m. at Kado village, the complainant heard people shouting and raised alarm about a thief in the neighbourhood, and he came out to assist in chasing the thief.
He said that the thief escaped into a nearby bush which was monitored and searched till 5 a.m. when the convict was caught.
He added that five different mobile phone SIM cards were recovered from Luka
during police interrogation.
He said that the convict had failed to give satisfactory account of the SIM cards. (NAN) UGO/DOR/HA
