Teenager docked for alleged armed robbery, remanded

Minna, July 20, 2018 (NAN) A 19-year-old man, Abubakar Shehu, was on Friday arraigned in a Minna Magistrates’ Court for alleged armed robbery.

His plea was not taken, while the magistrate, Murtala Ibrahim, ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison.

Ibrahim said that his court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the matter and directed the police to forward the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

He adjourned the case until Aug.1 for further mention.

The prosecutor, Insp. Mu’azu Abdullahi, had told the court that the accused was arrested and brought to the police station by members of a vigilance group on June 19.
Abdullahi said that the defendant, armed with knives blocked one Hussaini Umar, who was returning from his friend’s house and robbed him of his cell phone and N1, 300 cash.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 298 of the Penal Code.(NAN)
