Teenager appears in court for snatching handbag

Abuja, April 6, 2018 (NAN) The police, on Friday, arraigned a wheel barrow pusher at a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja for allegedly snatching a lady’s handbag.

The accused, who has no fixed address, is facing a two -count charge of joint act and theft.

The Police Prosecutor, Mr Adeyemi Oyeyemi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 25 at 4:a.m.

Oyeyemi said the accused along with two suspected accomplices, now at large, allegedly snatched a handbag belonging to one Elizabeth Ekebafe.

He said that the complainant was inside a taxi in front of Mosco night club when her bag was snatched.

The prosecutor said the items contained in the bag included, Ekebafe’s international passport, N45,000 and $300.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and said  that he could not afford to meet any bail condition.

Magistrate Ahmed Ubangari, therefore, ordered that Aliyu be remanded in prison custody.

Ubangari adjourned the case to April 20 for hearing. (NAN)
