Lagos, March 3, 2017(NAN) Some technology entrepreneurs on Friday said that the digital landscape had influenced the way people learn and work.
They made this known at the end of the weeklong Social Media Week (SMW) 2017, which started in Lagos on Feb. 27.
They discussed on the theme: “Digital: The New Frontier for Learning and Work’’, sponsored by TechLooms Internet Services.
The entrepreneurs urged the youths to have a space on the digital landscape to make themselves relevant in the global scheme of things.
Mr Adeola Kayode, an author of “the Digital Epidemic’’ urged the youths to create contents that people could consume on the social media.
He described social media as an online market square where people interact and urged the youths to key into that square by having a good space for themselves.
“The space is becoming very clear and so one needs to stand with a message that people understand so that they will be constantly remembered.
“Consistency will enable one to be remembered on that space as there are too many people competing for attention online,” he said.
Kayode said that to make a difference, the youths needed to find that small space where people would be talking about and carve a niche for themselves.
He said that the ability to try to figure things out, learning and reading was the greatest tool one needed to use to succeed on the social media.
“The day you find out what you want to do with your life, you will definitely find a way and learning has to be continuous.
“You and your time are also important tools, set goals for yourself to achieve and you will see yourself making it,” he said.
He said that for the multitalented person, there was need to climb one mountain and be able to transfer the credibility to other to succeed.
Mr Rotimi Eyitayo, the Chief Executive of Odriver Teammasters, said that for youths to promote their work online, they needed to understand how the industry works.
He said that to succeed online, the ability to ask questions and facing ones fears would help one to understand the concept of things done and be able to achieve significant feat.
Eyitayo added that there was nothing wrong with one being multitalented, adding that knowing ones priority, focus, building and investing time on a plan would make a good yield.
“One needs to do things with an industry mindset, with time you will find out that one thing will stick out.
“Sector dominance that is creating a sector out of a long pack and never fear the loss was an important tool to aid the youth,” he said.
Ms Olamide Egbayelo, an entrepreneur said that having the right skills and positioning oneself on the right platform would enable one to succeed online.
“One needs to be consistent, twit intelligently and provide solutions to problems so as to have a good impression on people’s face.
“Having an interest, passion, skills, good electronic device and time will enable one to succeed on the social media space,” she said.
Mr Fola-Daniel Adelesi, CEO at Edible Pen Consulting said that one challenges faced by entrepreneurs was that they mostly practice subsistence entrepreneurship, “just for me and my family’’.
He said that there was need for people to push and separate the business from the person and also be able to inform and educate people with their products.
He said that for a multitalented person, there was need to make a list, eliminate and rate them in order of importance so as to be able to get the required skill.
“Spent time, energy and resources to build a strong brand, create a strong impression and sustain it will make one succeed online,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that SMW Lagos is a weeklong conference that provides the ideas, trends, insights and inspiration to help people and businesses understand how to achieve more in a hyper-connected world.
