Stealing

Lagos, Jan. 3, 2017 (NAN) A 38-year-old technician, Eric Akinbumiti, accused of carting away some building materials, on Tuesday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Akinbumiti, whose residential address was not disclosed, is being tried for unlawful conversion of property and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 9, 2016 at Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos.
Okuoimose alleged that the accused stole building materials, property of one Mr John Eze.
He said that the complainant gave the accused a contract of decorating his building with Plaster of Paris (POP).
“The complainant awarded a contract for installation of POP on his building; the accused was paid N1.7million, which included money for materials and workmanship.
“But the accused did part of the job and ran away from the site with electrical cable wires, a plumbing machine, filler for POP and other materials.
“He disappeared from the site with the complainant’s materials without completing the job,’’ the prosecutor said.
He said that the value of the stolen items were yet to be ascertained.
The offences contravened Sections 285 and 327 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N40,000, with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs Y.O Ekogbulu, adjourned the case till Jan. 18 for mention. (NAN)
