Taxation: Plateau Revenue Services re-introduces essay competition among schools

Jos, Jan. 19, 2017 (NAN) The Plateau Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS) on Thursday inaugurated a panel on the re-introduced  Essay Writing Competition on Taxation among Secondary Schools in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the eight-man panel of judges for the competition was inaugurated by the PSIRS Acting Chairman, Mr Dashe Arlat.

Arlat said that the completion, which was introduced in 2014, had to be re-introduce in view of its importance.

“The objective of the competition is to utilize the initiative in reforming the minds of our youths to the essence of tax payment, tax administration and the negative consequences of non-compliance with extant laws by the citizens.

“Its also part of efforts to sensitize parents and the public on the need to pay their taxes regularly to enable government provide the citizens with  basic social amenities for growth and development of the state, ’’ he said.

Arlat said that due to the wide acceptability and acclaim of the first edition across the state, PSIRS decided to re-introduce the second edition this year.

The chairman advised the panel members to devote time to the assignment before them for its success.

Responding, the Chairman of the Panel, Chief Vonjen Lar, expressed gratitude to the service for finding them worthy to serve in such capacity as judges of the essay completion.

“I wish to assure the service, on behalf of my colleagues, that we shall put in our best to ensure that justice is done to all participants for its overall success, ’’ he said.

NAN reports that the judges include Mrs Mercy Longpoe, Dr Sarah Lwahas, Ms Hudung Gyang, Mr Joshua Tongman, Ignatius Usar, Paul Jatau and Wulashik Dafa’an, who is to serve as the Secretary.  (NAN)
