Abuja, July 27, 2017 (NAN) A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 39-year-old tailor, Adewale Liadi, to three months imprisonment for resisting police arrest and assault.
Liadi of Guyi village, Lugbe, had admitted committing the offence.
He was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal force, assault and resisting arrest.
The judge, Mr Abdullahi Garba, however, gave the convict,N25,000 option of fine and advised him to be a good citizen.
The prosecuting counsel, Abdulmanan Ohidaji, earlier told the court that one Mrs Kemi Agboje of Guyi village reported the incident at Apo Police Station on July 15.
Ohidaji said that on the same day, the convict went to Agboje’s house and beat her and threatened to kill her for no just cause.
He told the court that when police invited the convict for questioning, he failed to honour the invitation until July 16 when he suddenly reported to the station and was also granted bail.
He also alleged that the convict was asked to come to the police station on July 19 by 10 a.m. but he absconded until July 21 when a team of police men rearrested him.
