Ikeja, May 2, 2018 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 20-year-old tailor, Wasiu Ganiu, in Kirikiri Prisons for
allegedly robbing two women on motorcycle of cash and valuables worth N110, 000 at gunpoint.

The Magistrate, Mrs F.F George, who gave the ruling, said the accused should remain behind bars pending advice from the State
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The accused, who resides in Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy, kidnapping, robbery and stealing.

Police Prosecutor Godwin Awase said the accused and others still at large committed the offences on March 28 at Cemetery, Ajegunle.

He alleged that the accused and others conspired to rob two women — Mrs Medinat Jimoh and Mrs Ruth Olagbenro — of their phones and
cash at gunpoint.

“The complainants were on a motorcycle when the accused, armed with a gun and cutlasss, stopped them.

“They asked them to come down from the motorcycle and surrender their phones and money.

“The accused collected a Nokia phone valued at N7,000 and cash of N84,000 from Olagbenro and an Itel phone worth N7,000 and cash of N12,000 from Jimoh,’’ the prosecutor told the court.

Awase said the accused also captured and detained Mr Idris Ganiu and his mother, Mrs Kafilat Ganiu at gunpoint.

“The accused invaded the complainant’s residence, put them on motorcycles and took them away to unknown destination and
dispossessed them of their phones and money.

“The police, who received a tip-off, got to the scene and arrested the accused while others escaped with the stolen items.

“The values of the stolen items from Ganiu were yet to be ascertained,’’ he said.

According to the prosecutor, when Olagbenro and Jimoh got to the station to report the robbery, they saw the accused and were able
to identify him as one of those who robbed them.

The offences contravened Sections 271, 287, 297 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 297 prescribes 21 years jail term for robbery while Section 271 provides
10 years for capturing and detaining a person.

The case was adjourned until May 14 for mention. (NAN)
