Ikeja, Aug. 27, 2018 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded an 18-year-old tailor, Hashimu Muhammad, who allegedly stabbed a man and snatched his N55,000 phone at gunpoint.
The Magistrate, Mrs F.F. George, remanded the accused at the Kirikiri Prisons, and ordered that the case file should be sent to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Muhammad, who resides at Okokomaiko, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of assault and robbery.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 21 at the Okokomaiko Bus Stop.
Awase said that the accused stabbed Mr Opeyemi Kolawole with a knife after he refused to surrender the phone when he pointed a gun at him.
“When the complainant alighted from a motorcycle, the accused pointed a gun at him and demanded his phone, but the complainant refused to surrender the phone; so the accused brought out a knife, stabbed him, snatched the phone and ran away.
“After two months, the complainant sighted the accused and he was arrested; he later confessed to the police that he sold the phone for N20,000,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offences contravene Sections 287 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287 prescribes three years’ imprisonment for stealing while Section 297 attracts 21 years’ imprisonment for robbery.
The case was adjourned until Sept. 20 for mention. (NAN)
