Abuja, June 10, 2024 (NAN) The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) on Monday disowned reports in some sections of the media alleging that it inflated subsidy claims by N3.3trillion.

A statement issued by Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd., stated that the company had always conducted its businesses accountably and transparently, with international best practices.

Soneye said NNPC Ltd. had at no time inflated its subsidy claims with the Federal Government, noting that all previous subsidy claims by the company were verifiable, as relevant records and documents had been sent to relevant authorities and agencies.

He said that NNPC Ltd. was neither aware of any audit of its subsidy claims nor probe, noting that the ridiculous reports were the products of the imagination of the reporters and their respective media houses.

“NNPC Ltd. will resist any attempt to drag the company into the apparent politics of fuel subsidy as it currently operates on commercial basis and on the express provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

“It is on record that in line with its Transparency, Accountability & Performance Excellence (TAPE) mantra, NNPC Ltd. has, on several occasions, independently invited external auditors to review its books.

“NNPC Ltd. calls on media practitioners and media houses to exercise restraint and verify information before publication in keeping with the ethics of the noble profession of journalism to avoid misleading the public,” Soneye added. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

    By Ibrahim G. Ahmad
Gusau June 4, 2024 (NAN) Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, former Zamfara Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial District, has provided 76 Trucks of fertilisers to be distributed to farmers at 50 per cent subsidy.
Ibrahim Muhammad, Chairman, Publicity Committee of the AA Yari Political Organization made the disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen in Gusau on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the Chairman of the Committee and leader of the A. A. Yari Political Organisation, Alhaji Lawal  Liman made the revelation at a meeting with members of the distribution committee.
He explained that each of the eight Local Government Areas of Zamfara Central and North Senatorial Districts would receive five trucks of the fertilizer.
The statement said that the six council areas of Zamfara West Senatorial District where the Senator was representing, would each receive six trucks of the Fertilisers.
Liman said the NPK and Urea fertilisers provided costs between N40, 000 and N45, 000  per 50 kg bag in the market and would be sold to farmers at the cost of N20, 000 per  bag.
He said the idea behind the subsidy was to bail out farmers across the state from its shortage as well as its near out of reach due to the skyrocketed prices in the market.
The chairman maintained that the distribution pattern was designed to cover farmers in all the 147 Wards of the 14 Local Government Areas of the state regardless of the party differences.
He urged members of the distribution committees to ensure strict compliance with the laid down principles and practices of the provider of the commodity.
The Chairman also announced that Sen. Yari had provided 28 trucks of rice for distribution to people across the state during this year’s Edil Kabeer.
He said that the gesture, which would cover the poor and vulnerable community across the state, was borne out of the Senator’s desire to assist people especially the less privileged to celebrate the occasion with relative ease.
“Under the arrangement which will be supervised by the Ulama Committee that handled the senator’s previous gestures, each of the 14 Local Government Areas was allocated two trucks of 50kg bags of rice,”.
The chairman reiterated the commitment of the former governor towards providing succour to the people of Zamfara State in particular and humanity in general at all times
    .
He pleaded with the officials entrusted with the distribution to live above board in an attempt to achieve the goals of the project initiator. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
