    Ukrainian drone attack causes fire at oil depot in Russia

    Moscow, June 19, 2024 (Xinhua/NAN) A Ukrainian drone attack has on Wednesday caused a fire at an oil depot in Azov in the Rostov region of Russia, regional emergency services were reported by local media as saying.

    Governor of Rostov region Vasily Golubev, said earlier via his Telegram channel that storage tanks containing oil products in Azov ignited following a drone attack.

    Initial reports suggest that no casualties have been reported.

    The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, said that approximately 200 personnel and 49 units of equipment were deployed to extinguish the blaze in the storage tank.

    This has a total capacity of 4,000 cubic meters.

    The fire was contained in an area of 3,200 square meters.

    Kinshasa, June 13, 2024 (Xinhua/NAN) No fewer than 30 people were killed late Wednesday in an overnight attack blamed on Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels.

    The deaths occurred due to the recently launched series of deadly incursions into the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), a military spokesman confirmed on Thursday.

    ADF rebels launched an attack in the village of Mayikengo, Lubero Territory, North Kivu Province, Mak Hazukay, the DRC military spokesman for Beni Territory, told Xinhua, confirming the ADF’s first presence in Lubero Territory.

    According to local sources, most of the victims, were women and children, were killed by machetes.

    This attack came days after several deadly incursions by ADF rebels into the neighbouring Beni Territory and killed 57 on June 3-8.

    This is according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

    The ADF, an affiliate of the Islamic State in Central Africa, has been notorious for its violent activities in North Kivu and Ituri province.

    The place has been under a state of siege since May 2021, with military and police authorities replacing the civilian administration.

    Hazukay said the resurgence of ADF rebel attacks against civilians was the result of heavy operational pressure exerted jointly by the Congolese and Ugandan militaries. (Xinhua/NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

    Kinshasa, June 8, 2024 (dpa/NAN) About 60 people have been killed in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo during several attacks by an affiliate of the Islamic State terrorist group, authorities said on Saturday.
    The attacks took place in Béni, a territory in the province of North Kivu.
    “This week alone, they killed 29 civilians on Tuesday in Mamove and then yesterday, Friday, executed 28 other civilians near Masau,” said Kambale Gerve, a civil society leader in Beni said.
    A Red Cross source in Kinshasa said that “around 60 bodies have been taken in, while others are lying on the ground in areas that are still unsafe.”
    From its propaganda channels, the Islamic State Central Africa Province (ISCAP) claimed the death of more than 60 “Christians.”
    The Islamists released shocking videos and photos of bound bodies of victims floating on the Loulo River in Béni territory.
    Gerve said the attacks were carried out by Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels.

    Moscow, June 6, 2024 (dpa/NAN) A Ukrainian drone attack has damaged a refinery in southern Russia, the governor of the Russian region of Rostov, Vasily Golubiev, said on Thursday.
    He said no one was injured, although the attack on the plant in the city of Novoshakhtinsk caused a fire that spread over 50 square metres.
    However, the fire looked larger in videos that were shared in social networks during the night.
    Russian Telegram channels reported that local residents had noticed the use of air defence and heard explosions.
    The Novoshakhtinsk refinery, located close to the Ukrainian border, was previously under aerial attack in April.
    Ukraine has been attacking Russian fuel production sites for several months, in an attempt to interrupt Moscow’s supplies by using drones capable of travelling longer distances, carrying small explosive charges.
    Russia said Ukraine also attacked a fuel depot in the Belgorod region during the night.
    Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military also reported Russian attacks during the night using 18 combat drones and two Iskander missiles.
    Kiev said 17 drones had been shot down.
    Russia aimed the two Iskander-M ballistic missiles at the southern Ukrainian region of Dnipropetrovsk, Kiev said, without providing any information about damage caused.
    Ukraine has been fending off a full-scale Russian invasion for more than 27 months.
    Russia occupies almost a fifth of Ukraine’s territory, including the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, which it illegally annexed in 2014. (dpa/NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

    German far-right AfD politician attacked with a knife in Mannheim

    Mannheim (Germany), June 5, 2024 (dpa/NAN) A politician with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) was attacked with a knife in the western German city Mannheim late Tuesday evening, dpa has learned from security sources.

    The man was injured, as dpa learned on Wednesday, and the perpetrator was detained.

    The Mannheim police only confirmed that there had been a police operation, but said they would provide information in the morning.

    According to the AfD district association, the incident took place near the market square.

    The AfD candidate was stabbed after confronting someone who was stealing an electoral poster. (dpa/NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
