Abuja, March 14, 2017 (NAN) The Planning Committee of the 47th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) says the conference will focus on educating participants on alternative sources of revenue.

Mr Charles Ebiai, the Chairman of the committee, stated this in the institution’s official bulletin issued on Tuesday in Abuja.

Ebiai said that the conference would hold from March 28 to April 1 in Imo State with the theme “Growing and Diversifying the National Economy:The Real Estate Imperatives’’.

According to him, the sub-themes of the conference are land-based revenue generation opportunities, integrated urban-rural development and optimising tourism in real estate through Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

“This is one conference that offers the opportunity to learn and discover new opportunities as estate surveyors and valuers to diversify to relatively unknown areas.

“The theme of the conference is timely, in view of what is happening in the national economy and its spiral effect on all spheres of Nigeria; and our profession is not spared.”

He blamed the economic recession in the country on over-dependence on oil, adding that the choice of the conference theme was to offer a way out of the quagmire.

“It is with this understanding that we are calling on professionals and government organisations to come, learn and discover other alternative sources of revenue.

“As estate surveyors and valuers, we are affected as we have seen the prices of property cascading downward with prospective clients not showing interest because the times are biting hard,” he added. (NAN)
