Suleja (Niger State), March 9, 2017 (NAN) Suleja Local Government in Niger says it is targeting N350 million as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in 2017.
The Chairman of the council, Alhaji Shaiubu Maje, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Suleja on Thursday.
The council chief said that already, the revenue department had been reorganised to meet the set objective.
Maje said the council management would continue to introduce policies that would ensure that revenues were paid into the council’s purse.
He added that “we will boost our revenue generation to enable us to realise funds for the execution of various developmental projects for our people.”
The chairman said arrangements had been concluded to engage private revenue consultant to work with staff of the revenue department for effective revenue generation.
“We have identified our sources of revenue, and we will utilise our revenue collection officers to move from one shop to another for proper revenue generation.”
Maje warned staff of the revenue department against malpractice, saying anyone found wanting would have himself or herself to blame.
He added that arrangements had been concluded to relocate Madalla market to its permanent site behind Zuma Rock .
Maje said that the traders usually displayed their goods by roadside, constituting a threat to road users especially on market days.
He explained that the relocation would ensure smooth movement of traffic, especially those coming from Abuja to Kaduna.
He said that already, the council had provided water, good access of road and fenced the new market site.
He called on traders to cooperate with the local administration in its efforts to provide environment conducive for business opertations.
The chairman explained that the council would not tolerate indiscriminate attachment in shops allocated to traders.
Maje said that adequate security measures had been adopted to ensure the protection of lives and property .
He said that a police station and fire service would also be provided in the market .
