Student in court over alleged cell phones theft

Lagos Jan. 24, 2018 (NAN) A 20-year-old student, Abimbola Doyin, who allegedly stole three cell phones belonging to his friends, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Doyin, who resides at Obalende area of Lagos, is facing a four -count charge, bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Unah Mike, told the court that the accused committed the offences with some others still at large, on Nov. 19, at No. 3/5, Chief Jannaid Close, Alakuko, Lagos.
Mike said the accused stole the cell phones in his home, when he invited the complainants: Toke Davie, Dupe Ayeni and Adeola Salami, to his birthday party.
“During the party he and his accomplices drugged the complainants and disposed them of their belongings,” he said.
The prosecutor listed the stolen items as: a Samsung Galaxy phone valued at N60,000, a Samsung Galaxy A3, valued at N180, and an iphone 4, valued at N80,000.
Others are, a make-up bag, which also contained an ATM card,
Mike said the complainants reported the case at the police station and the defendant was arrested.
He said the offences contravened Sections 287, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr A.A. Fashola, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Feb. 5 for mention. (NAN)
