Stakeholders in Bayelsa seek govt collaboration on tourism

Yenagoa, May 9, 2018 (NAN) Some Stakeholders in the tourism Industry in Bayelsa have advocated the need for more government collaboration to achieve meaningful development in the sector.

The stakeholders made the call on Thursday during a meeting organised by the Bayelsa Ministry of Tourism in Yenagoa.

They decried the way the sector was has been neglected over the years and urged government at all level to support the industry that could boost the economy.

A stakeholder, Mr Preye Briababe, Chairman, Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) said that tourism sector would not only boost the economy but could go a long in checkmating the spate of crime among youths.

Briababe, however called on the need for proper implementation of policies that were aimed at youth development in all states of the federation.

“Some talented musicians, especially the youths are still looming the streets because they were no supporters or sponsors for them to harness and utilise their sills.

“PMAN as a body have been working hard in the area of talent hunt and promotion of young ones and we are ready to work with the government to ensure that the tourism industry, especially in Bayelsa is developed,” he said.

Mr Yarin Bekeboh, Head of Administrative Department, Bayelsa Tourism Development and Hoteliers License Agency said that such partnership became necessary and urged hospitality operators in the state to be more focused.

Bekeboh explained that the state government had made several laws aimed at strengthening tourism sector for the betterment of the society.

Mr Ebiere Musa, State Commissioner for Tourism, who reacted to the issues raised, said government is making efforts to promote tourism sector in the state.

Musa assured that the partnership between stakeholders and government would continue to be strengthen in the effort to harness and utilise talents that are abound. (NAN)
