Dutse, May 10, 2017 (NAN) Alhaji Gambo Umar, the Sports Director, Jigawa Sports Council, on Wednesday urged stakeholders, including corporate bodies and wealthy individuals to assist in developing sports in the state.
Umar told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse that such gesture would form part of their Corporate Social Responsibility to the state.
According to him, the assistance will help in developing sports, especially football.
The director advised such corporate bodies and wealthy individuals to assist in providing sports facilities as well as facilitate sponsorship of competitions at the grassroots.
According to him, the provision of adequate facilities will help to motivate the youth to actively participate in sports at the grassroots.
Umar said that such assistance would also bring about the discovery of talents.
“Government alone cannot achieve success in the development of sports without the support of all and sundry.
“So wealthy individuals, banks, construction companies, among others operating in the state should invest in sports development, particularly football.
“They should not leave sports development in the hands of the state government alone; they should complement government’s efforts.
“The gesture is expected to provide a platform for grooming young players to feed the state-owned Golden Stars FC among other professional teams in the country,” Umar said.
The director said the sports council was planning to organise inter-local government football competition, adding that such would enable players at the grassroots in the state to develop themselves. (NAN)
