By Kazeem Akande/Augusta Uchediunor
Lagos, Feb. 1, 2017 (NAN) The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Wednesday commenced the full enforcement of the speed limiting device on commercial and articulated vehicles nationwide.
Mr Shehu Zaki, Zonal Commanding Officer, FRSC Zone 2, comprising Lagos and Ogun, disclosed this to newsmen during the enforcement exercise at the Old Tollgate, Ojota, in Lagos.
Zaki said that the enforcement would continue until a significant number of vehicles have installed the device.
“We have commenced the exercise throughout the country, and for now, we are arresting the commercial and articulated vehicles found operating without installing the device.
“Over 20 vehicles have been impounded today and we will continue the enforcement,’’ he said.
Zaki said that every vehicle arrested would pay a fine of N3, 000.
The FRSC boss said that the enforcement of the device would be effectively pursued in 2017, to reduce the number of crashes on the roads.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that FRSC had commenced advisory enforcement since Oct. 1, 2016 where motorists were being enlightened on the significance of the device. (NAN)
