Sokoto, Jan. 26, 2017 (NAN) The Sokoto State Government says it will distribute 500 houses in the Kalambaina Housing Estate to the state’s Civil Servants in 2017.
The Commissioner for Lands and Housing Development, Alhaji Bello Gwiwa, disclosed this on Thursday in Sokoto before the State Assembly’s Committee on Lands and Housing.
Officials of the ministry appeared before the committee to defend the ministry’s budget proposals for 2017.
“The government is committed to ensuring that all its civil servants are accommodated in appreciation of their service to the state.
“The gesture will motivate the members of staff to work harder to improve the state civil service in line with the present administration’s mandate,” he said.
Gwiwa said that the Gidan Salanke 500-unit Housing estate would be completed in 2017 to further reduce the housing deficit.
The Acting Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Ibrahim Gidado (APC- Sokoto South I), said the assembly would carefully consider the ministry’s proposal in the budget.
Similarly, officials of the State Ministry of Animal Health and Fisheries Development also appeared before the Assembly’s Committee on Animal Health to defend the ministry’s 2017 budget.
Alhaji Tanko Garba, Director of Administration in the ministry, said N1.5billion was proposed by the ministry for some proposed fish farming and livestock projects.
He explained that the ministry would engage more farmers to boost the state’s internally generated revenue.
The Committee’s Chairman, Alhaji Mode Sanyinna (APC- Tambuwal East), gave the officials assurance that the assembly would support the ministry to sustain its achievements in 2016. (NAN)
