Sokoto, Jan. 25, 2018 (NAN) Hajiya Kulu Sifawa, the Sokoto State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, has restated the state government’s commitment to empower rural women.

Sifawa made the disclosure in an interview with newsman on Thursday in Sokoto, shortly after defending the ministry’s 2018 budget proposal before the state House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs.

She said the state government was committed to ensuring more development projects to enable women in the state to become self-reliant.

She added that “we have so much to achieve in the area of women empowerment through various entrepreneurial programmes in the metropolitan and environs.

“This year, we will continue to focus on rural women to make them self-reliant.

“In this fiscal year, more emphasis will be on completion of women development centres across the 23 local governments and ensure their functionality to train women in different fields of business ventures.”

The commissioner said the ministry would also focus on children’s development, especially in the area of education and welfare.

She assured that the ministry would continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to improve the living standard of women and children in the state.

Earlier, the Committee Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Gobir (APC- Sabon Birni North), had commended the state government’s commitment to women and children’s empowerment and assured the Assembly’s support to achieve the goals. (NAN)
