Sokoto Jan. 27, 2017 (NAN) The Sokoto State Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, Alhaji Musa Ausa, on Friday said the state government planned to spend N700 million on the construction of a modern stadium in 2017.
The Commissioner gave the assurance when he and some other officials appeared before the State House of Assembly Committee on Youth and Sport Development to defend the ministry’s 2017 budget proposal.
“The government is committed to ensuring that all sporting activities are well accommodated in order to improve the skills of talented youth in the state.
“This commitment encouraged the construction of a modern stadium to motivate the youth to work harder in improving the state’s sporting activities, in line with the present administration’s mandate, ” he said.
Ausa said that the ministry would also be more committed this year, in organising seminars and workshops to sensitize youth on the effects of drug abuse.
The Committee’s Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Gidado (APC- Sokoto South I), promised that the Assembly would consider all the ministry’s needs, and support it to achieve more results in the sector.
Similarly, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, Commissioner for Solid Minerals, said that the Kware mini Cement Industry to be completed this year would provide employment for no fewer than 1000 people.
The commissioner gave the assurance before the Assembly Committee on Solid Minerals when officials of the ministry appeared to defend their budget proposals for 2017.
He said that creation of more employment opportunities would be a major focus of the ministry in 2017.
Goronyo appealed investors to come and take advantage of the public private partnership which was working successfully in the state.
The Committee’s Chairman, Alhaji Musa Miko (APC- Tangaza), assured the official that the assembly would support the ministry to build on its achievements. (NAN)
