Sokoto, Nov. 1, 2016 (NAN) Sokoto State Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Buhari Kware says the State Government spends about N1.2 billion every month on the payment of pension to retirees in the state.
Kware made this known to newsmen on Tuesday in Sokoto during a ministerial news briefing.
As part of the initiatives to enhance welfare of retirees, the government had disbursed N2.6 billion for the payment of outstanding gratuities of 1,901 workers, who retired between 2009 and 2015, he said.
The head of service emphasised the state government commitment to regular payment of monthly pension to retired civil servants.
He said that various achievements were made by the office of the Head of Civil Service under the two departments of Administration and General Services, and Department of Establishment and Pension Matters.
According to Kware, the government has spent about N 61.7 million to sponsor some indigenes of the state to further their education through the establishment and pension department. (NAN)
