Refuse
By Muhammad Nasir Bello
Sokoto, Oct. 15, 2016 (NAN) The Sokoto State Government has approved the construction of 21 additional refuse dump sites across the state.
The Director of Environment, Ministry of Environment, Alhaji Kasimu Yabo, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto on Saturday.
He explained that this will encourage more refuse evacuation by creating more refuse dumping sites, to meet up with the high demand following population growth.
Yabo said that the present administration was highly committed to ensuring clean and sanitised environment.
“The state government had since approved the construction of 21 additional refuse bunkers, while 14 existing ones will undergo renovation,” he said.
Yabo attributed prevalence of refuse heaps to indiscriminate dumping of refuse, lack of patriotism from the public, shortage of bunkers and over population, among others.
Yabo further called on the general public to maintain the culture of dumping their refuse at the designated dump sites.
According to him, this will go a long way to support government in its efforts to achieving the desired objectives of a clean environment. (NAN)
