Gombi (Adamawa) Nov. 3, 2017 (NAN) The Management of Guyaku District Clinic in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa, said on Friday that it recorded more than 600 patients treated for snake bite.
Mrs Mercy Dawha, officer in charge of the clinic, said this in Guyaku, when the Federal Government team led by Mrs Margaret Dobigbo, visited some of the UNDP intervention projects in the state.
Dawha told the team that the clinic had been offering treatment for snake bite victims for 15 years.
“Available records from 2005 to date, shows that we recorded treating over 600 snake bite patients and 99 per cent of the patients were successfully treated and discharged.
“The incident usually occurred during the rainy season and majority of the victims are villagers and farmers,” Dawha said.
She explained that on Feb. 22, 2014, the clinic and the staff quarters were completely burned down by insurgents, adding that with the support of the UNDP intervention project the clinic was reconstructed and equipped.
She also said that the clinic registered not less than 60 pregnant women for ante-natal clinic monthly and recorded between 10 to 15 births.
Dawha told the team that the most frequent illnesses recorded by the clinic were malaria, typhoid fever, diarrhea and cough.
Responding, Mrs Margaret Dibigbo said that the team was in the clinic to inspect the UNDP intervention projects in the state including the clinic.
Dibigbo expressed satisfaction with the standard of the clinic and urged the state government to maintain it to ensure the healthy living of its residents. (NAN)
