Bauchi, May 20,2017 (NAN) No fewer than 50,000 girls and women in  six local government areas of Bauchi state are to benefit from a UNESCO-ALWAYS supported project, tagged “School Meet the Learner Approach,” (SMLA).
Executive Secretary of Bauchi State Agency for Mass Literacy (BASAME), Mrs Yelwa Abubakar said in a statement issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday that the objective of the project was to provide basic literacy to the beneficiaries.
She listed the six local government areas as Bauchi, Katagum, Tafawa Balewa,Alkaleri, Dass and Warji.
“The project is designed to meet the learners in the comfort of their houses and business places, through the use of customized mobile phones, ipad, tablets and televisions.
“The choice of Bauchi state is informed by the fact that it is the safest state in the North East sub-region of Nigeria.
“The objective of the project is to increase access to basic education for girls and women in the non-formal education subsector and low performing girls in Junior Secondary Schools, by empowering their skills through e-learning,” she said.
The Secretary therefore called on stakeholders within the selected local government areas, to contribute their quota towards the success of the project.
She said the project would be launched by the State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar on Tuesday, May 23. (NAN)
