Singapore, Feb. 22, 2017 (dpa/NAN) A child care centre in Singapore on Wednesday denied allegations of ill-treating its wards by feeding them rotten food and letting them sleep on the floor.
Photos, including one of a child covered in faeces sleeping in a cot, were distributed via the Chinese messaging app Wechat last week
Sam’s Early Learning Centre said that it believes the photos were posted by an ex-employee who has since returned to China.
“The photos were taken last year and “do not represent an accurate picture” of the centre’s operations, director Samia El-Ibiary said.
Responding to allegations that the centre threw away milk powder because teachers forgot to feed the children, El-Ibiary said the powder had spilled onto the kitchen counter and was thrown away for hygiene reasons.
As for children sleeping on the floor, she said they were doing “stretching and breathing exercises” after lunch.
El-Ibiary also added that the centre throws away rotten fruit and cleans up its wards, referring to the faeces-covered child.
“The teacher had called upon the cleaner to assist in the cleaning up of the child.
“The cleaner was asked to help wash the toddler while the teacher held him and distracted him.” she said
Singapore’s Early Childhood Development Agency is investigating the case. (dpa/NAN)
