(Mangu) Jos, Dec.14, 2016 (NAN) ‎Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau on Wednesday charged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state to shun corruption and other social vices.

Lalong gave the charge in Jos, at the close of 2016 Batch B orientation exercise at the NYSC permanent orientation camp.

The governor, represented by Mr Danladi Mangs, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, urged the corps members to display integrity, patriotism, humility, self sacrifice and dedication to duty.

“You must shun corruption and other vices in whatever form, and instead embrace integrity, patriotism, humility, self-sacrifice and dedication to duty.

“You should be guided by the realisation that you are not only ambassadors of the NYSC, but you also represent all Nigerian youths.

“You must therefore strive to exhibit credibility and exemplary conduct and behaviour at all times,” he said.  ‎

Lalong charged Ministries, Departments and Agencies not to reject corps members posted to them for their primary assignment, in compliance with a circular from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

He commended corps members for their contribution in the areas of infrastructure development, education and healthcare delivery, particularly in the rural areas, saying they show the relevance of the NYSC scheme.

The governor urged the corps members to accept their posting to their places of primary assignment with a sense of patriotism, assuring them of their safety in the state.

“It is my hope that at the end of your service year, you would have lived up to the nation’s expectations and ideals of the NYSC scheme,” he said.

In his remarks, Mr Abdulrazak Salawu, NYSC State Coordinator in Plateau,  ‎urged the corps members to bring to bear the needed positive change in the lives of their host communities.

Salawu said that majority of the corps members posted to the state were not seeking re- deployment, but were staying back.(NAN)‎
