Lagos, Feb. 21. 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Tuesday granted N100,000 bail to a  20-year-old shopkeeper, Destiny Elamah, who allegedly stole her employer’s N243,000.

The Magistrate, Mark Davies, also ordered Elamah to provide two sureties as part of the bail condition.

He said the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government and adjourned the case until March 20 for mention.

The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing one-count charge of stealing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Emmaunel Ajayi, told the court that Elamah allegedly committed the offence in February at Araromi Street, Mushin, Lagos.

He said the defendant absconded with his employer’s money, Mathias Eseigbu,
after he sold some drinks in the shop.

Ajayi added that “the defendant disappeared with the proceed from the sale of
hot drinks and wine.

“All efforts to get the money from him proved abortive until he was arrested.”

He said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The section stipulates that a defendant be jailed for three years if found guilty. (NAN)
