Lagos, March 13, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Monday granted a N300,000 bail to a shopkeeper, Rosa Jude, who allegedly stole his employer’s goods valued at N1.8 million.

The 30-year-old woman, who entered a `not-guilty’ plea, is a resident of Olubodun Street, Itire in Surulere area of Lagos.

The Magistrate, Mrs F. Azeez, who gave the ruling, said the accused should produce two sureties as part of the bail condition.

Azeez said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Emmaunel Ajayi, the accused committed the offence between October 2016 and February 2017 on Ijesha Road, Mushin, Lagos.

He said the accused stole her employer’s goods valued at N1.8 million, property of Dangote Group.

“The accused stole 100 bags of mama gold flour, 16 bags of Dangote sugar, 15 bags of golden penny flour, four bags of Honeywell flour, two bags of Dangote salt  valued at N1.8 million.’’

Ajayi said that the fraud was discovered during stocktaking.

“The accused, who was employed in 2016, stole the company’s N1.8 million goods; the theft was discovered during stocktaking.

“When the accused was questioned, she said that she sold the goods to some customers who are yet to pay her.

“When some of the customers were called, they said that they paid the accused before taking the goods.

“Efforts to recover the money were unsuccessful,’’ he said.

The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes three years imprisonment for offenders.

The magistrate adjourned the case to March 27 for mention. (NAN)
