Abuja, Jan. 24, 2017 (NAN) Mr Babachir Lawal, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has cautioned members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) against cultism and drug abuse.
Lawal gave the advice in a statement by Mr Bolaji Adebiyi, Director of Press in the Office of the SGF, in Abuja on Tuesday.
The SGF made the call when he received the executive members of NANS led by its President, Mr Aruna Kadir.
He said the surge in the abuse of narcotics and violent crimes associated with cultism in tertiary institutions among students had become national concern.
The SGF noted that the situation was a clear departure from the past where campus clubs represented the best examples of platforms for social and intellectual interactions.
He assured the delegation that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration was aware of the role of youths in the political development of the country.
Lawal said the Federal Government was determined to provide employment for youths, and urged the students to take advantage of the diversification of the economy through agriculture and solid minerals development.
He pledged the commitment of the Federal Government to partner with NANS in its areas of interest, adding that agriculture and solid mineral development were key sector that could provide mass employment.
The NANS president commended the SGF for the audience, and pledged the commitment of the association to support President Buhari-led administration.
Kadir said the association was ready to partner with the Federal Government in conducting free and fair elections, entrepreneurship promotion, anti-corruption as well as healthcare delivery. (NAN)
