Abuja, May 15, 2017 (NAN) The National Coordinator, SERVICOM, Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli, says plans are underway to ensure that original certificates are issued to graduands by tertiary institutions with minimum delay after graduation.
Akajemeli gave this indication in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.
According to her, the Ministerial Servicom Committee of all universities is currently working with her agency to make the long delay in the issuance of certificates consigned to the past.
She noted that institutions such as the University of Nigeria Nsukka and University of Abuja are examples of schools complying with global best practices as they issue certificates in the scroll they give on convocation day.
The national coordinator also urged Nigerians to insist on being rendered the right services by service providers, saying that defaulters should be reported to the nearest SERVICOM units.
She said that the SERVICOM units located in all Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are meant to collect reports of service failure in their offices.
On the plans to improve service delivery in the country, she said the agency would intensify its advocacy visits to service providers across the country.
She added that, they would also embark on under cover evaluation of services in the MDAs to gather adequate report of service delivery and provide solutions to failures.
“ We will do a lot of awareness to enlighten people that they do not need to walk away from the face of service failure but insist that they must be served right.
“We want to provide awareness on the side of service providers and service takers engaging them meaningfully so that they can challenge themselves to get the service providers to do what they are employed to do.
“We will deploy our troops for the mystery shopping experience, where we go and evaluate quality of services under cover from the reports are troops bring back, we will then work out strategies for improvement.’’
Akajemeli also said the SERVICOM is collaborating with the Nigeria Educational Research Development Council (NERDC) to ensure the inclusion of SERVICOM in the school curriculum.
According to her, NERDC who is responsible for developing the curriculum of this nation will come up with steps for the inclusion of SERVICOM in the curriculum from primary to undergraduate level.
She explained that the council will give the final draft its professional touch before the document goes for approval by the higher education bodies, saying“we want to do this very quickly”.
The SERVICOM boss, however, called on the media to partner with the organisation on the advocacy programme and improved service delivery.(NAN)
