Donations
Pankshin (Plateau) July 3, 2017 (NAN) Sen. Joshua Dariye (APC/Plateau Central) on Monday donated 1,800 bags of fertiliser and 98 motorcycles to his constituents as part of efforts to empower them toward self reliance.
Dariye, former Plateau governor, also presented a car to the APC zonal office and 98 sewing machines with one beneficiary from each of the 98 wards of the senatorial zone.
The senator also announced a N1.8 million scholarship for youths in the five local governments – Mangu, Bokkos, Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam – that make up the constituency.
He said that the gesture was in appreciation of the love the people had shown by voting him “two times as governor and two times as senator”.
According to him, a committee will be set up to work out the modalities for dispensing the scholarship to deserving students “to ensure that no ward is left behind”.
The former governor advised politicians against “forgetting” voters after election, “only to resurface when another election is around the corner”.
“It is such politicians that give politics a bad name. We, in Plateau, inherited service to the people and that is what we want to uphold and bequeath to the younger generation,” he said.
Dariye urged the people to ensure judicious use of the items to boost the economies of their families and that of the entire state.
In his brief remarks, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, Plateau Deputy Governor, commended Dariye for the “life touching’’ empowerment programme, and challenged the beneficiaries to ensure prudent utilisation so as to attract more donations. (NAN)
